Expert Piano Movers in Toronto, Mississauga & the GTA Solutions
A piano is heavy, top-heavy and fragile at the same time. An upright usually weighs between 300 and 500 lb, and a grand piano can weigh 500 to 1,000 lb or more — with a cast-iron plate, a soundboard and thousands of moving parts inside. Moving one safely takes the right equipment, a planned route and a crew that has done it before.
Upright pianos
Uprights and spinets are moved standing, strapped to a heavy-duty piano dolly and fully wrapped in thick pads. The keyboard lid is closed and secured, and the piano is never tipped onto its back or keyboard side, which protects the action and the case.
Baby grand and grand pianos
For grands, the lid and the music desk are removed, the legs and the pedal lyre are taken off, and the piano is placed on its straight side on a padded piano board (often called a "skid board"). It is strapped down, wrapped, and rolled to the truck, where it travels secured upright against the wall. At your new home, the crew reattaches the legs and lyre and sets the piano exactly where you want it.
Stairs, condos and tight entrances
Most of the risk in a piano move is the route, not the drive. Before moving day we ask about stairs, landings, door widths and turns, and for condos we book the service elevator and provide the certificate of insurance your building needs. When a piano cannot go through the route safely, we say so before moving day.
Tuning after the move
Changes in temperature and humidity affect tuning more than the move itself. We recommend letting the piano acclimatise for two to four weeks in its new room before calling your tuner.
We move pianos across Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Vaughan and the rest of the GTA, as part of a full home move or on their own. Request a free quote or call 1-888-668-3007.

Client Feedback (5/out of 348)
It depends on the type of piano (upright or grand), the number of stairs and the distance. A local upright move on the ground floor costs less than a grand going up several flights. We give you a fixed quote after a few questions about the piano and both addresses.
Yes. For baby grands and grands, we remove the legs, pedal lyre and lid, place the piano on a padded piano board, and reassemble everything at your new home.
Yes, in most cases. We ask about the number of steps, landings and turns before moving day so we can bring the right crew and equipment. If a route is unsafe, we tell you in advance.
Usually yes, mostly because of the change in temperature and humidity. We recommend waiting two to four weeks for the piano to acclimatise before booking a tuner.
