How to Move a Peloton Bike or Tread Safely (Step-by-Step)
A Peloton is easier to move than a commercial treadmill, but it is still heavy, top-heavy and fitted with a large touchscreen. Here is how to move one without damaging the machine, your floors or yourself.
How heavy is a Peloton?
- Peloton Bike: about 135 lb
- Peloton Bike+: about 140 lb
- Peloton Tread: about 290 lb
The Bike can be moved by two careful adults over a short, flat distance. The Tread is a different job: at almost 300 lb, it needs proper equipment and usually a professional crew.
Before you start
- Check your manual and warranty. Peloton publishes moving guidance for its products; follow it, and keep any parts you remove in a labelled bag.
- Measure the route: doorways, hallways, stair turns and the elevator.
- Protect the floor along the whole route with runners or cardboard.
Moving a Peloton Bike or Bike+
- Unplug the power cord and disconnect the cables from the back of the touchscreen.
- Remove or secure the screen. The screen is the most fragile part. If you remove it, wrap it in a moving blanket and carry it separately, screen side protected.
- Lower the seat and handlebar posts and tighten the adjustment knobs so nothing slides.
- Tilt the bike forward onto its front transport wheels — one person at the handlebars, one supporting the back — and roll it slowly. Never drag it.
- Lift, do not roll, on stairs. Use two people, take one step at a time, and keep the bike upright.
- In the vehicle, keep the bike upright if possible, strap it to the side wall and pad it with blankets.
Moving a Peloton Tread
- Unplug the Tread and remove the safety key.
- Disconnect and protect the touchscreen.
- Do not try to lift it by the handrails alone — lift from the base frame, with at least two (ideally three) people.
- Use a heavy-duty dolly or appliance dolly, strap the Tread securely, and protect floors and door frames.
- Stairs are where most accidents happen. For basements, condos or long carries, hire movers with stair equipment.
After the move
- Place the machine on a level, solid surface, ideally on a mat.
- Reconnect the screen and power, check that the screen is firmly secured and run a short, easy session to confirm everything works.
- If anything feels loose or noisy, stop and contact Peloton support or your movers.
