How Much Does It Cost to Move Gym Equipment in Canada? (2026 Guide)
Short answer: in the Greater Toronto Area, moving a single machine such as a treadmill, elliptical or exercise bike typically starts around $150–$300, while larger strength machines and complete home gyms are quoted by the job because the time involved varies a lot. Commercial gym relocations are always quoted after a site visit. The rest of this guide explains what drives the price so you can estimate your own move.
The 6 factors that decide the price
1. The type and weight of the equipment
Weight and size matter more than anything else. Some typical weights:
| Equipment | Typical weight |
|---|---|
| Peloton Bike | about 135 lb |
| Spin bike / upright bike | 80–150 lb |
| Elliptical | 150–300 lb |
| Home treadmill | 200–350 lb |
| Peloton Tread | about 290 lb |
| Commercial treadmill | 400 lb and more |
| Smith machine / multi-gym | 300–700 lb+ |
2. Disassembly and reassembly
Most treadmills, ellipticals, Smith machines and cable machines have to be partly disassembled to go through doors and down stairs: consoles, uprights, cable systems and weight stacks come off, then go back on and are re-tensioned at the new address. That labour is usually the biggest part of the bill.
3. Stairs, basements and condos
A treadmill on a ground floor is a short job. The same treadmill in a basement with a tight turn, or in a condo with a booked service elevator and a loading dock window, takes longer and sometimes needs an extra mover.
4. Distance
Local moves within the GTA are billed by time. Long-distance moves (Ottawa, Montreal, Alberta, British Columbia) are priced on weight or volume and distance, usually as part of a full household move.
5. Number of pieces
Moving five pieces in one trip costs much less per piece than five separate visits. A full home gym is often the most cost-effective job per machine.
6. Extra services
Calibration, re-levelling, rubber flooring, removal of old equipment or storage between addresses all add time.
Typical GTA price ranges (2026)
These ranges are a starting point for local moves in Toronto, Mississauga and the GTA. Your exact price is confirmed in a free quote.
- Single cardio machine (treadmill, elliptical, bike): typically from $150–$300.
- Heavy single machine (Smith machine, cable crossover, commercial treadmill): quoted per job; plan for more labour because of disassembly and weight.
- Complete home gym (several machines, racks, weights and flooring): quoted per job; usually far cheaper per piece than moving machines one at a time.
- Commercial gym, condo fitness room or hotel gym: always quoted after a site visit, scheduled outside opening hours.
For context, a standard local residential move with our team is billed at $120–$150 per hour for a 2-mover crew.
How to keep the cost down
- Send photos and the model names. An accurate quote avoids surprises.
- Measure doorways and stairs at both addresses.
- Book the condo elevator early and tell us the window.
- Move everything in one trip rather than piece by piece.
- Sell or remove what you no longer use — we also handle gym equipment removal.
Should you move gym equipment yourself?
For a light spin bike, maybe. For treadmills, Smith machines and anything with a weight stack, a DIY move risks damaged floors and walls, a broken console or motor, and injuries. Many manufacturers also recommend professional handling. See our step-by-step guides on how to move a treadmill and how to move a Peloton.
